Final Exit Visa KSA: Check, Print, and What Happens After

A final exit visa (خروج نهائي) permanently ends Saudi residency and cancels the Iqama. Check its status on Absher under Visa Information, where “Final” confirms issuance. It stays valid for 60 days, capped by your Iqama’s remaining validity.

Do This Next:

  1. Clear traffic fines and outstanding obligations first
  2. Check Absher for the Visa Class field showing “Final”
  3. Print or screenshot it before your last day in the Kingdom

What a Final Exit Visa Actually Does?

This is not a travel permit you use and return on. It is an ending.

A final exit visa, خروج نهائي and transliterated as Khurooj Nihai, is issued by Jawazat, the General Directorate of Passports. It closes your legal residency permanently.

Once used, your Iqama is cancelled. There is no return on the same status, and no undoing it once you have left.

That makes this different from an exit and re-entry visa, which brings you back. Confusing the two is covered in the exit re-entry visa check guide, and what that visa costs is set out in the exit re-entry visa fees guide.

Who Applies, and the Independent Route?

Historically, only your sponsor could start this process. That is no longer the only path.

Your employer typically submits the request through Qiwa, with issuance completing on Muqeem and Absher. For dependents, the head of household issues it directly through Absher under Visa Services.

Since the Labor Reform Initiative took effect in March 2021, qualifying workers can apply independently. This applies where your contract has ended or expired, and where it is properly documented on Qiwa.

Applying independently removes the need for your current sponsor’s consent. Eligibility depends on your specific contract status, so confirm your position with MHRSD before relying on this route.

How to Check Final Exit Visa Status?

Absher gives the fastest, most direct answer, because it shows your personal record rather than your employer’s processing queue.

  1. Open absher.sa and select Individuals
  2. Sign in with your credentials or Nafath
  3. From your dashboard, select More Details
  4. Scroll to Visa Information
  5. Read the Visa Class field

If Visa Class shows Final, the visa has been issued. Any other entry means it has not yet been processed.

A second route exists for anyone without Iqama access yet. The MHRSD inquiry service accepts a border or passport number instead. It returns one of two Arabic results, meaning either “still working” or issued.

Printing Your Final Exit Visa

Printing works differently for you than it does for dependents still in the Kingdom.

For your own visa, download and print directly from Absher once Visa Class shows Final. For a dependent still in Saudi Arabia, print through Family Members, then Visa Services. Select Print Visa under their record.

One exception matters here. Once a dependent has actually left, printing their paper copy needs a Jawazat office visit instead of Absher.

The Validity Window and the January 2025 Rule

This is the update most guides have not caught up with. It changes how far in advance you should start the process.

A final exit visa is valid for up to 60 days from issuance, but it can never outlast your Iqama.

Where your Iqama has 30 to 59 days left, the visa is issued only for that shorter period. It will not get the full 60.

Where your Iqama has under 30 days left, a rule Jawazat announced in January 2025 applies. Reporting indicates it blocks issuance until the Iqama is renewed.

That last point reverses the usual instinct. If you are leaving for good and the Iqama is nearly expired, the counterintuitive step is renewing it anyway. That step alone unlocks the final exit visa.

Pro Tip: Start the final exit process the moment your departure date is confirmed, not the week before. Clearances, Iqama validity, and processing time all compound if left late.

Clearing Obligations Before You Leave

Absher and Jawazat check several things before releasing the visa.

  • Outstanding traffic violations, visible and payable in Absher
  • Unsettled debts or pending legal cases
  • Court judgements against you
  • Utility bills tied to your residence, where applicable

Any one of these can hold the visa pending. Clearing them earlier rather than closer to your departure date avoids a last-week scramble.

If It Expires Before You Leave

The visa lapsing unused is recoverable, but not free of consequence.

You do not automatically lose your residency status if a final exit visa expires before you travel. Reporting indicates the record commonly carries a fine before the visa can be reissued or cancelled.

A fresh request restarts the process, including any clearance checks that may have changed since the first application.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check my final exit visa status?

Log in to Absher, open More Details on your dashboard, then check the Visa Class field under Visa Information. “Final” confirms the visa has been issued.

How long is a final exit visa valid?

Up to 60 days from issuance, but it cannot outlast your Iqama’s remaining validity. Iqamas with fewer than 30 days left must be renewed before a final exit visa can be issued.

Can I apply for my final exit visa without my sponsor?

Under the Labor Reform Initiative, qualifying workers can apply independently once their contract has ended and is documented on Qiwa. Confirm your eligibility with MHRSD before relying on this route.

What happens if my final exit visa expires before I travel?

Your residency status is not automatically lost, but reporting indicates a fine typically applies before the visa can be reissued. A new request restarts the process.

Final Thoughts

The January 2025 Iqama floor is the detail worth carrying forward from this whole topic. Some residents assume a nearly expired Iqama can simply be left to lapse on exit. That is the exact case this rule now blocks.

Renewing an Iqama you are about to cancel feels backwards. It is often the only way to get the final exit visa issued at all.
